Richard's Notes
Simple, functional, spacious, private, relaxing, comfort ... were what come to mind as I entered Mr. Cooper's home.
Outside: I particularly like the deep set-back from the road and the windy path from the stone pillars off the road. I also like the position of the house to maximize the vantage point for breathe-taking vistas (and overlooking, at a distance, the neighbour's substantial estate).
Inside: I like the lay-out. The expansive kitchen with walk-out to the Stone Patio (and pool if you want to put one in) overlooking Brighton Bay and built-in wrap-around counter-top, bar and pantry. Spacious Breakfast area leading into the living room with gas fireplace and then to the Billiard Room - one of my favorites. Here's a glimpse. 1/2 inch thick Knotty Pine Paneled cocooning/enveloping the entire room with a built in bar and entertainment unit (armoire) with Cathedral Ceiling. And, of course, a commanding view of the area.
Then there is an interesting, but unfinished, loft over the garage. Not to forget the sumptuous whirlpool in the Master Bedroom.
Notes on The Region
Northumberland County, wherein lies Brighton, benefits from the growing trend of "city folk" moving out from the hustle and bustle in the "big smoke" to somewhere quieter and safer. With the Internet revolutionizing the way we do business and communicate, many have taken advantage of what telecommuting has to offer. When we placed the Director of Marketing for a major National Bookstore in Grafton 4 years back, he traded his home in North York for a 100 acre farm with a restored Century Home that once belonged to the Masseys for $550,000. I am sure it's worth a lot more now.
Northumberland County is only part of this phenomenon of "managed growth", boasting many spas and unique development - a large subdivision dating a few years back, in particular, was developed by a REIT and has proven to be a hit. A client from the U.K., now a good friend, is setting up an alternative spa in Brighton in 2003. I am sure this will be quite special - as influenced by her background as a hotelier in Africa and her son as an impresario in the entertainment/music industry in the U.K. and New York. We have the Big Apple in Colborne that opens year round attracting millions. Then Prince Edward County, with picturesque Picton, is turning into the other Wine Producing region. Then there is Trenton and Belleville, led by one of the most dynamic Economic Development Boards in the person of Chris King; and Kingston, which is experiencing phenomenal growth.
